The Best Of Orange Walk District
The capital of the district is Orange Walk Town, also known by locals as “Sugar City” (pronounced shuga city). The district is home to mostly Maya mestizo people, Creole people, and Maya Ketchi people. Due to the Spanish influence in the area, Spanish and Creole are the most common spoken language. Orange Walk’s main economic base is drawn from agriculture, with sugar cane being the primary crop. This is slowly being replaced by a combination of alternative crops such potatoes, onions and soya beans. The district is also known for its diversity as visitors come to explore the untouched jungles, Mayan sites and try their famous street tacos.
